The Association of Prospective Teachers for the Practice of Genuine Education

The Association of Prospective Teachers for the Practice of Genuine Education (Chamshil) is an educational association in the Department of Korean Language Education. This is an organization where students in the Department of Korean Language Education who wish to become great teachers study together and share their ideas while pursuing genuine education. The members of this association have opportunities to develop a broad understanding of the world and discuss education through philosophy, history, and basic education seminars. This association also tries to cultivate the professionalism required by Korean language educators by offering seminars on Korean language education. In this organization, students wishing to become teachers study together to achieve their dreams.


The Association of Modern Literature

This is an academic organization for modern literature reading. Its members read and discuss diverse literary works published from the 1970s to today. They can discuss anything related to modern Korean literature. This association provides students with chances to read various literary works beyond those listed in their textbooks and share their thoughts. In this association, students can explore diverse lives through literary works while managing their own study and part-time work.


Aurrm

Aurrm is a Korean traditional percussion band in the Department of Korean Language Education. It belongs to Sorisawi, the Korean folk percussion band of teacher’s colleges, and its members learn and play Palbong Goot of Honam Jwado. Students learn all rhythms of Palbong Goot in the first semester, and begin to practice Seonban, a basic element of folk percussion play, from the second semester. In the second semester, a seminar on Korean folk percussion play is also held. Aurrm encourages all of its members to enjoy exciting goot performances together, regardless of their skills.


The Association of Education Literature

Created in 1992 as an academic association in the Department of Korean Language Education, the Association of Education Literature is an organization that deliberates on what exactly comprises desirable literary education. This association discusses the problems with current literacy education, pointing out that literary education is ineffective in Korean language classes. With its belief in the unique power of literary education, the Association of Education Literature discusses ways to solve these problems through seminars for the true function of literary education. Under the phrase, “We are a family,” the Association of Education Literature enables its members to discuss and exchange their thoughts about literature in a family-like atmosphere.


The Association of Classical Literature

The Association of Classical Literature, which is led by Professor Changhui Lee, was the first among six associations in the Department of Korean Language Education. This organization holds two seminars on the Analects of Confucius and classical literature each semester. A former member of the Association of Classical Literature guides students as a secretary in the seminar on the Analects of Confucius, while a current association member plays the role of a secretary in the seminar on classical literature. Numerous students belong to this association, and there are active exchanges between younger and older members.


The Association of Korean Language Studies

The Association of Korean Language Studies is a small academic organization in the Department of Korean Language Education in which any students interested in language studies can participate. Through seminars on Korean language studies held by this association each semester, students can work together to satisfy their curiosity and build academic competency. Exchanges with past members of this organization provide students with help in their college life and a strong sense of fellowship.
